Have you been told to remove the carpets in your
home because of allergies. You've done this and
now you find that your allergies did not improve
at all. You ask your self why?
It's very true that the wood floors and other hard
surface floors are non-allergenic. It is also true that
the carpets and rugs that you have on the floor traps
and holds 95% of all the allergens, pollutants, soils
and other things that may be bothering your allergies.
However, the fact that carpeting does trap and hold
these substances is a very positive factor for you to
understand. Your carpet is the largest in-door air filter
that you may have in your home or office.
You see , scientific test and reviews show us evidence
that point to the fact that carpeting is not the problem
with the in-door allergies. In Sweden, wall-to-wall
carpeting installations declined from 40% in 1970's
to only 2% in 1992, allergy-asthma related problems
increased precipitously.
In tests conducted at Professional Testing Labs in
Dalton, Georga. while testing with a walking
machine on both carpeted and smooth floors,
it was found that air-borne particle levels were about
eight times higher on the smooth floors bare
floors as compared to the carpeted floors. Just walking
across a hard surfaced floor mixes up a cloud of dust
and allergens from the floor.
Keeping both types of surfaces clean by vacuuming with a
high-efficiency micro filtration or HEPA
filtration vacuum is very important. However, someone with
allergies should not be the person in charge of vacuuming or
sweeping. For the allergy prone, professional carpet
cleaning at least every 6 to 9
months is recommended to remove up to 96% of the dirt,
soil, allergens, contaminants, dust, and dander .
